Pursuing a life-long effort to represent interesting form, design and light effects through multiple art-making mediums, Todd Montanero’s current work is primarily focused on oil painting.
Whether painting a still life set up in the studio, or painting a landscape on location, painting directly from life is the primary exercise. It is only from this process that the truthful representation of colors and values and their relationships with one another can be seen.
Sometimes this process is indirect: multiple paint layers each allowed to dry completely before applying the next layer. Sometimes the process is direct: painted all in one layer (allaprima). To express the beauty in the simplicity of shapes and design and the effects of light upon them, and to evoke a positive emotion to the viewer, are the goals.
